These Red Knot shore birds scurry along the shore. They are the "keystone cops" of the beach. They run along the shoreline following the surfline as it recedes into the sea... and then scurry up the beach as fast as their legs will go to avoid the incoming waves. They are a comical bunch to watch. And if you get too close, they all take off in unison and seem to fly in a synchronized formation. It's a wonder none ever collide in this flight pattern. The white one in the middle is the first to get its winder plumage. Before long, all will be change from the rust plumage to white.
